BBQ Fundraiser – The Men’s Club of St. Thomas More Church, 11441 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, is holding a barbecue chicken fundraiser Sunday, Jan. 21. Plates will include barbecue chicken, beans, coleslaw and bread for $7. Plates will be available after the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses. There will also be a drive through at the activity center from 10 a.m.– noon. For orders of 10 or more plates, email to reserve the order and include the pick-up time and your phone number.

    Racial Healing – The Racial Harmony Commission of the Diocese of Baton Rouge invites everyone who wishes to work together for racial healing and transformation to come to an organizational meeting on Saturday, Jan. 6, 9:30 a.m. – noon, at the Bishop Robert E. Tracy Center, 1800 S. Acadian Thwy., Baton Rouge. Plans will be made for the 2018 MLK Festival of Service, inviting Catholics from all over the diocese to enter into dialogue about racism and the divide it causes in our communities;

    St. Paul sponsoring 5K walk/run

    St. Paul Catholic Church and the St. Paul Adult Learning Center are sponsoring a 5K walk/run for literacy awareness Saturday, March 22 on the grounds of the church at 3912 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge. Registration opens at 7 a.m., with an 8 a.m. race time scheduled. Awards, refreshments and community awareness activities will follow.

    Organizers said this is the first 5K walk/run to be held in the Eden Park community, which has the highest rate of illiteracy in Baton Rouge.
