Father Francis Ferrier SJ, 84, who had been chaplain at several nursing homes in the Baton Rouge area, died Jan. 31.

Born in New Orleans to Leon Ferrier and Minette Menard Ferrier, he attended Jesuit High School in New Orleans and Loyola University before entering the Society of Jesus in 1948. He was ordained at Spring Hill College in 1961.

He taught at schools in New Orleans, Tampa, Houston and Mobile, served as registrar at Stake Jesuit in Houston for 12 years and as a hospital chaplain in Galveston, Houston and Waco, Texas and in Lafayette and Baton Rouge.

From 1999 to 2012 he was chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and various nursing homes in the Baton Rouge area. He was also involved in Retrouvaille ministry.

He retired to Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center in New Orleans in 2012.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 7 at Our Lady of Wisdom.

He is survived by a brother, Leon H. Ferrier III and four sisters, Mrs. T.A. Parker, Mrs. Henry C. Stahel, Mrs. Leonard B. Smith and Marie Marcelle Ferrier.
