Sister Beth Lieux CSJ, a Sister of St. Joseph for 63 years, passed away at Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita, Kansas, on May 8 at the age of 81.

Sister Beth was born in New Roads, one of eleven children of the late Joseph Bertrand Lieux Sr. and Frances Azema Lorio Lieux. Baptized Elizabeth Helen, Sister Beth is survived by siblings, Theodore (Ted) Richard Lieux, Sister Bertrand Lieux (Rita Ann) CSJ, Magda Lieux Bonnette and Ralph Lorio Lieux. She was preceded in death by siblings Joseph Bertrand (Bert) Lieux Jr., Charles Jerome Lieux, James Edward Lieux, John Albin Lieux, Frances Lieux Dabadie and Marie Lucille (Cile) Roy. She is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

Sister Beth graduated from St. Joseph Academy in New Roads in 1951. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans and professed perpetual vows in 1956. She attended Loyola University and received an RN diploma from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1961.

After teaching three years at St. Ann Parochial School in New Orleans, Sister Beth began her nursing ministry at Pointe Coupée General Hospital New Roads. Her nursing career spanned more than 40 years of service at Terrebonne General Hospital in Houma; Earl K. Long Hospital and in New Orleans at the Sisters of St. Joseph Infirmary, Algiers-Fisher Clinic and Loyola University Student Health Center.

In 2006, Sister Beth retired to St. Joseph Convent in Baton Rouge and in 2009 to the Sisters of St. Joseph residence. In 2012, she moved to Mount St. Mary’s Convent in Wichita, Kansas.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on May 13 at Mount St. Mary Convent. Burial followed immediately in the convent cemetery.
