Sister Anne Claire Price CSJ, 86, died Sept. 28 in Wichita, Kansas.

She was born in New Orleans to Roderick M. and Clara Verges Price and lived in Louisiana until relocating in 2006 after Hurricane Katrina to the Center of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Wichita. Sister Anne Claire is survived by a niece, Clare Leaumont, and a cousin, Sidney Stone, both of Metairie.

Sister Anne Claire entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Orleans in 1947 and professed perpetual vows in 1955. She graduated from Loyola University in 1969 with a bachelors in education and was certified for chaplaincy by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.

Sister Anne Claire taught in Catholic elementary schools in New Roads, Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Morgan City for 35 years. She then became part of a team in pastoral care at Mercy, Baptist and Children’s hospitals in New Orleans.

From 1985 to 2005 Sister Anne Claire enjoyed her ministry as a staff member of the People Program in the New Orleans area, a program that offers educational and social opportunities to people 50 years of age and older.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Oct. 1 at Mount St. Mary Convent in Wichita. Burial followed immediately in the convent cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Dear Neighbor Ministries or the Sisters of St. Joseph retirement fund at 3700 E. Lincoln, Wichita, KS 67218.
